Who We Are and What We Believe as a Church

Redeemer Church is a new and growing spiritual community in Utah Valley. We are Bible-based, and we are all about passionately pursuing our amazing God. He is big enough to fill our hearts to overflowing and provide for every need. We live for His glory! Why? We love Him because He first loved us. Apart from God, we’ll never experience truly, radically unconditional love in our lives. God sent His only Son to die for us even when we were deep in our sins. He enters our lives today when we don’t deserve help and often when we’re in the lowest places in life. Can’t ever seem to measure up? Can’t escape from those hidden sins? Can’t see past your pride, your hurts, unmet needs? You’re not alone. There are no perfect people at Redeemer Church, only imperfect people loving our perfect God together! He alone meets our deepest needs. We come to Him with empty hands. We forsake trust in ourselves, as if we could ever do anything to make a dent in the great debt we owe our God. What do we have but what He’s given us anyway? The great healing moment for every human being is when our hands are completely empty of self-righteousness, self-will, and trust in any created thing. Then, when our hands are empty, they are ready to receive the great love of God the Creator. This love changes us spiritually and miraculously from the inside out. Our whole lives were meant for this journey toward absolute dependence on this infinite God of infinite love. Won’t you join us on our journey of faith?

But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!

Romans 5:8

We Are Evangelical Christians

The term, “Evangelical” describes Christians of various denominations who belive the Bible alone to be God’s authoritative message to mankind.  This can include Bible-Believing Baptists, Presbyterians, Bible Churches, Methodists, Assemblies of God, and many others. The central beliefs of all these denominations are very similar as they look to the Bible alone to guide their faith.

Below you will find a description of seven core Biblical beliefs that define evangelicals broadly and are the basis for our communion together as a church.  All are welcome to attend, to explore, to question, and to enjoy mutual friendship together at Redeemer.  These beliefs define the core values of our membership, though, and we hope all of our friends will come to embrace the Truth of this amazing story of love to undeserving people like us, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in one holy and infinite God, who exists as three persons in eternal, loving relationship.  God fills all space and time and has no equal anywhere in any way.

We believe man was created as a very good being imaging the character of God, and in right relationship with God; but through rebellious faithlessness became utterly sinful and worthy of condemnation.  Sinful men can never do enough on our own to become acceptable to the Holy God.

Jesus Christ

Jesus is fully God and fully man.  He lived the perfect life no one could live. He died on the cross in order to receive the punishment we deserve. He rose again in order to defeat death for all those who would follow him in faith.

Man is condemned to eternal punishment unless he receives the un-earned gift of grace.  This gift is received by faith alone in Christ alone.  Faith is the humble confession that I can never be or do enough to save myself. We must depend entirely on Jesus, who paid it all for me.  The result is restored relationship with God, a changed heart moving us toward holiness, and the promise of the highest rewards of heaven

The Church

All those whose hearts and changed and restored to right relationship with God, by grace alone and through faith in Christ alone, are spiritual members of God’s people, His church.  These individuals are drawn to join in community, care, and service in a local church that places itself under the authority of God through the message of the Bible as the only authoritative word of God to mankind.

The Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books from Genesis to Revelation is the complete and self-contained revelation of God to man.  There is no other source of divine revelation and authority.  The Bible is reliable today, because of the miraculous preservation of the original text throughout the centuries. The church must submit herself to no other rule of life and faith.  Though men and organizations have claimed their own authority from God, they have always lead people away from the perfect truth of the Bible and it is spiritually dangerous to move from this sure foundation.

The Afterlife

After death all mankind will be resurrected and then judged.  They will be divided into two distinct destinies.  Those who have not trusted in Christ alone apart from their works, will recieve the reward of their works, which is eteral conscious torment in Hell, away from God. All who trust Christ alone will recieve the reward of Christ, which is blissfull relationship with God in heaven forever. Those who belong to Christ by faith will dwell in perfect resurrection bodies in a renewed heaven and renewed earth. The source of their eternal joy will be nothing higher than the perfect, unmitigated  presence of the God who died for them.

Come as you are! Feel free to dress casually or formally, as God leads you personally. Most of our people tend to dress casually. The pastor will usually be in jeans, a button down, and maybe a sports jacket. Still, feel no pressure to fit into a dress code. God looks at our hearts not at outward appearances. (1 Samuel 16:7)

Arrive Early! We will have snacks and drinks waiting for you! There will also be friendly, welcoming people who will want to get to know you.

If you have kids, you may want to sign them in for nursery or children’s church. Nursery is for ages 3 months to 3 years, and children’s church serves our 4-10 year olds with exciting songs, games, crafts, and Bible teaching designed to grow children’s understanding of the Bible and their desire to follow Jesus. We want children to get the most out of Sunday mornings, while allowing parents to focus their hearts and minds on God during the service.

During the service, you’ll experience music designed to direct our hearts and minds to God in love and adoration. There will also be readings from the Bible and historic proclamations of faith and love for God. The sermon will be deeply Biblical and engaging. The sermon will engage the deepest needs of our hearts, minds, and souls where we live today, with the Bible’s timeless Truth. Most of the time, the sermons will move through books of the Bible so we understand the Bible’s message in its context and don’t miss anything God wants to say to us. Sometimes, we will also take a break from moving straight through a book of the Bible to address particular topics that are important for our lives and the life of our church from a broader Biblical perspective. The main point? We want God to speak to us through his Word every week as we respond to Him in worship, prayer, and heartfelt commitments to walk with the God of glory because of His great grace to us in Christ!

After the service, people tend to stick around to talk and maybe eat the rest of the morning snacks! This is a great time to connect more deeply with the warm and friendly people, to ask any questions you may have, or talk about how you can be more involved in the life of Redeemer church. On the second Sunday of most months, we have a potluck meal after the service that has become affectionately known as “Feast Sunday.”  Feel free to come bringing a dish or simply partaking with us as our treasured guests!
